Ghana, 1968. Can Carlos Cure Our Cup Hangover? Ghanaian football welcomes its latest 'saviour' during a time of defeat: Carlos Alberto Gomes Parreira, the 24-year-old soccer strategist from football-mad Brazil. His arrival, however, was initially met with fireworks of a different kind – another wrangle among the organisers of the national sport. National Soccer coach C.K. Gyamfi (pictured right) initially greeted the news of Carlos' appointment as an "assault on the integrity of Ghanaian coaches". Yet, just a few weeks later, Gyamfi was full of praise for Carlos, as they are seen here in a working discussion at the Accra Sports Stadium. Parreira faces a formidable mission: the unenviable task of injecting 'panache, passion, and fresh personalities' into the stagnant pool of Ghanaian soccer.
