| Description | Jamestown, Portrait of a town – And at festivals, Nee Adja Quao himself represents traditions hundreds of years old. Here he is in his ancient ceremonial garb, responding to the greetings of his subjects as he descends the steps of his palace on his way to celebrate Odwira. Of all the various towns which constitute the city of Accra, the one which has best managed to maintain its individuality through the ages is Jamestown. And this is in spite the fact that it was one of the first to come under the influence of Europeans. Drum wanted to portray the ageless greatness of Jamestown and there seemed to be no better way than asking Jamestown to tell its own story – by presenting a camera's eye view of life as it is lived in Jamestown. |
